    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Subsea

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor selected KimLift® synthetic round slings to complete the first of two offshore campaigns for Reliance Industries Ltd. KG-D6 R-Cluster subsea field development. The field is located in the Krishna Godavari basin off the East Coast of India.

    The campaign included piggy-back pipe lay in S-lay mode (18-in. plus a 4-in.) offshore in approximately 4,265 ft (1,300 m) water depth and the installation of 6-in. lines, PLETs and manifolds to water depths of approximately 6,300 ft (1,920 m). In addition, the contractor also installed India's longest dual riser.

    The KimLift® synthetic round slings were produced to very tight length tolerances at a specific load and bearing diameter. This was made possible with Future Synthetic’s Engineered Length Control and the tolerance of 0.5% was consistently met.

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Deepwater Subsea Application

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor selected multiple KimLift® synthetic round slings as their preferred choice for this Deepwater, subsea lifting application.

    The slings were used for the Block H Gas Development project located in 1300m water depth offshore Sabah, Malaysia.

    These synthetic slings were the new generation KLXB KimLift® slings utilizing machine braided jackets for greater protection to the load bearing core yarn.

    The braided jacket provides superior protection against mechanical damage and specifically against potential damage caused by the ROV gripper.

    Due to their use subsea, the slings were required to be short in length and yet have a high strength – the two properties combined is typically very difficult for a sling maker to achieve. However, the manufacturing process used in producing the KLXB range overcomes this problem and slings a short as 2.0m can be produced in high load capacity.

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use Slings

    BACKGROUND

    The heavy lift crane vessel required a load test on the main revolving crane of 3,000 metric tons prior to mobilization for an offshore project. The test involved lifting a dead-weight of 3,000 metric tons as part of the acceptance procedure during the peak summer season in the Middle East where daytime ambient temperatures reached 40 degrees C.

    In order to reduce rigging weight, the crane operator selected KimLift KLX-815 synthetic slings to lift the test barge. The slings were 38.0m in length.

    The slings had been used on multiple heavy lift projects before and were recertified after a thorough inspection performed by KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC.

    All slings had been made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance for previous projects.

    The success of this project proved the concept of large synthetic slings being safely used for several lifts in multiple projects – another breakthrough in the use of synthetic slings to replace steel wire rope slings!

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use Slings

     

    BACKGROUND

    This iconic state-of-the-art heavy lift crane vessel required a load test on the main revolving crane of 3,000 metric tons prior to mobilization for an offshore project.

    The test procedure involved using KimLift® synthetic slings up to 1,320t in the build-up to applying the full 3,000t test load.

    KimLift® KLX-815 and KLX-563 synthetic slings were selected for this load test to supplement steel cable laid grommets as a means of reducing the rigging weight. They were connected in-line with the steel grommets by shackles.

    The slings had been used on multiple heavy lift projects before and were thoroughly inspected before use by KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC according to a well defined procedure.

    All slings had been made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance for previous projects.

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use

     

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor required a lightweight sling option to lift the suction piles from the deck of the vessel.

    KimLift® KLX-165 synthetic slings were selected to be used due to their ability to be wrapped around the pile without risking damage to the pile.

    The slings were specifically fitted with FS Armor seizing at the contact points with the suction piles to prevent damage to the slings when used in double choker configuration. The FS Armor seizing protected the sling from damage and they were used for multiple lifting and on more than one project.

    The Neelam Redevelopment project encompassed total engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC). The scope included one new process platform having gas processing and compression facilities, three new well head platforms, 32km pipeline, clamp-on on three existing platforms and modification work on eight existing platforms

    The Neelam Offshore field is situated in the Heera-Panna block in Mumbai Offshore, about 45km Southwest of Mumbai city.

    2x KimLift® synthetic round slings KLX-165 (MBL 815MT) and 2x KLX-281 (MBL 1,405MT) with FS Armor protection. Nominal effective working length 32.00 meters for both types of slings.

  • Process Gas Compressor (PGC) Installation - Mumbai High North Project

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings

     

    BACKGROUND

    Future Synthetics Pte Ltd designed and manufactured a total of 8 heavy lift slings for KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC. The slings were used for installing Process Gas Compressor (PGC) modules on the Mumbai High North platform for ONGC. In addition to this, another 2 KimLift slings were supplied for lifting pipes in chocker hitch. Theses slings were specially prepared with additional cover protection to ensure they could withstand the high abrasion and tearing forces that occur with a chocker hitch. The use of synthetic KimLift slings for this heavy lift project was a milestone for the heavy lift contractor; being the first such project in this region to use synthetic slings instead of steel wire rope slings. The slings also made use of the high strength FutureSteel® yarn that was produced at Future Synthetics Pte Ltd using high speed twisters. All slings were made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance.

  • Abu Safah Project (Saudi Arabia): Multiple Jacket Lifts

    BACKGROUND
    In June 2018 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test a series of heavy lift grommets and slings for an offshore contractor as part of their Long Term Agreement (LTA) with Saudi Aramco renewed in 2015 until 2021.

    The Abu Safah field is a joint development field between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Contractors were invited to bid for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for ten oil and gas jackets that were located across the Marjan, Safaniya, and Abu Safah fields.

    This particular phase of the project required cable laid grommets made to IMCA M179 Revision 1. The grommets were tested on our KimTest1000 test bed.

  • ZuluF & Marjan Project (Saudi Arabia): Multiple Jacket Lifts

    BACKGROUND

    In May 2018 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test a series of heavy lift grommets and slings for an offshore contractoras part of their Long Term Agreement (LTA) with Saudi Aramco renewed in 2015 until 2021.
    The new LTA contract included EPCI (Engineering, Procurement,Construction, Installation) activities and T&I (Trunk lines & Installation) work in Saudi Arabia. The scope of work included the design, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a total of 19 jackets for the development of fields in Marjan, ZuluF, Berri, Hasbah, and Safaniyah, among the most important offshore fields in the region of the Arabian Gulf. 
    This particular phase of the project required cable laid grommets made to IMCA M179 Revision 1. The grommets were tested on our KimTest1000 testbed.

  • Neelam Project (India): Multiple Jacket & Topside Lifts

    BACKGROUND
    In March 2018 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test 23 heavy lift slings for the Neelam Project offshore Mumbai, India.

    The Neelam Redevelopment & B173AC project was awarded by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) valued at USD 245 million. The contract encompassed engineering, procurement, construction,installation and commissioning.

    The scope included one new process platform having gas processing and compression facilities, three new wellhead platforms, 32 km pipeline, clamp-on on three existing platforms and modification work on eight existing platforms.

    The Neelam offshore field is situated in the Heera-Panna block in Mumbai Offshore, located at about 45 km South-West of Mumbai city.

  • NASR Project Phase 2 (U.A.E): Multiple Topside Lifts
    February 2018

    BACKGROUND
    In February 2018 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test 8 heavy lift cable laid grommets for the NASR project in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

    The project called for the development of Phase 2 of the NASR Full Field located 30 kilometres northwest of Abu Dhabi by ADNOC. The scope for Phase 2 comprised the NASR Super Complex including an accommodation platform, a separation platform, a gas treatment platform, flares, bridges, bridge support and a manifold tower. It also included the installation of 44km subsea power and 55km infield cables to connect the complex with the existing power generation facilities at Umm Shaif Super-Complex and Das Island. The existing manifold and wellhead towers were also to be modified under this contract.

    The customer selected cable laid grommets of ultra-long lengths to complete this project.

  • Daman Project (India): Multiple Jacket & Topside Lifts

    BACKGROUND

    In January 2018 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design,manufacture and test 40 heavy lift slings for the Daman Development Project offshore Mumbai, India.

    The contract was awarded to the contractor by state-owned company Oil & Natural Gas (ONGC) through an international competitive bidding process and was worth $177m. Work scope covered engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC). Approved in August 2014, the project started operating after its first well commenced production in 2016.

    Due to their lighter weight and easier handling characteristics as compared to hand spliced cable laid slings, the customer selected KimFlex® braided slings for this prestigious project.

  • Berri & Marjan Project: Multiple Jacket Lifts

    BACKGROUND

    In October 2017 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test 22 heavy lift slings for an offshore contractor under a long-term agreement signed with Saudi Aramco. The contract is for 17 jackets – the steel frames supporting the processing platform – for the Berri and Marjan oilfields in the Arabian Gulf. Of the 17 platforms to be built and lifted into place, will be for the Berri and 8 for the Marjan fields.

    Under the six-year LTA, contractors will be responsible for delivering a number of offshore oil and gas producing platforms, tie-in platforms, pipelines, power cables, and all the related facilities, as required under the current master plan for Saudi Aramco's offshore fields.

    Due to their compact terminations, lighter weight and easier handling characteristics as compared to hand spliced cable laid slings, the customer selected the KimLock® resin terminated cable laid sling as their preferred choice for this project.

  • Joint Development Area (JDA) Block B-17 Field Development Project: Multiple Jacket Lifts

    BACKGROUND


    In October 2017 KTL Offshore was awarded the  contract to design,manufacture and test 35 heavy lift slings for the jacket lifting phase of the JDA Block 17 project in the Gulf of Thailand.Due to their compact terminations, lighter weight and easier handling characteristics as compared to hand spliced cable laid slings,the customer selected the KimLock resin terminated cable laid sling as their preferred choice for this project.The Joint Development Area (JDA) Blocks B-17 & C-19 and B-17-01 Integrated Development Project involves the phased development of gas and condensate fields in blocks covering a 4,700km² area south of the Gulf of Thailand off the coast of Thailand and Malaysia.The water depths range between 55m and 65m.These blocks contain a total of 18 gas fields.

  • Johan Sverdrup Haven Project: Suction Caisson and Jack-Up Leg Installation

    BACKGROUND
    Future Synthetics Pte Ltd designed and manufactured a total of 36 heavy lift slings for KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC. The slings were used for installing
    the suction caissons, self-elevating legs and other structures for the drilling rig on location in Norway. This encompassed extended wet storage periods and
    subsea lifting for the KimLift® slings – all well within the slings design capability. At the time of this project, the KLX-836 slings with a WLL of 1,004 metric tons
    and effective length of 38.00 meters set a new standard in the lifting industry for overall combination of lifting capacity and length for a synthetic sling.
    The slings also made use of the high strength FutureSteel® yarn that was produced at Future Synthetics Pte Ltd using high speed twisters; meaning that
    this was truly a turn-key sling project for the KTL Offshore Group. The KimTest 3000 test bed easily accommodated the larger sling
    length and test load of 1,245 metric tons. All slings were made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance

  • Karan Project : Multiple Platform Lifts

    BACKGROUND


    In 2017 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design,manufacture and test 30 heavy lift slings and grommets for the KARAN project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.The slings were tested on our KT1000 horizontal test bed to ensure the critical length tolerances were achieved – one of the largest test facilities in the Middle East. The EPCI contract was awarded by Saudi Aramco, which involved the engineering, procurement, transportation and installation of offshore structures including observation platform, wellhead production deck module, auxiliary platforms, 20" internally cladded flow line and composite power cable.The Karan gas field is located offshore of the Arabian Gulf in water depths of 40m to 60m. It is the first non-associated gas field being developed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.The field is owned and operated by Saudi Aramco, a state-owned oil and gas company.

    KimLift™ Synthetic Slings – Deep Water

    BACKGROUND

    KTL Offshore was awarded the scope of supply for 12x KimLift™ synthetic heavy lift slings to be used for the installation of deep water jackets in the Caspian Sea. The KimLift™ slings were selected due to their light weight, high strength and extreme durability and unparalleled successful track record in the heavy lift industry. The KimLift™ slings are made using HMPE synthetic material, having the same strength as the equivalent sized steel wire rope sling. When used subsea the slings have neutral buoyancy increasing hook payload as well as operational efficiency. Using our Engineered Length Control™ technology the slings were produced to 0.25% length tolerance (under load).

    The Shah Deniz field is located 90 kilometres offshore Azerbaijan in water depths of up to 550 meters. The Full Field Development project undertaken by BP is one of the largest gas development projects in the world.

  • Trat Field Development

    BACKGROUND

    KTL Offshore was awarded the scope of supply for the heavy lift slings and grommets to be used for the installation of multiple new wellhead platforms

    and subsea pipelines for Chevron in the Trat Field in the Gulf of Thailand.

    This project showcases spectacularly the wide range of heavy lift options KTL Offshore can offer: cable laid grommets, resin terminated cable laid

    slings as well as braided slings. Each option caters

    to a specific requirement from the customer

  • NASR Full Field Development Project: Multiple Jacket Lifts

    BACKGROUND
    In November 2016 KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to design, manufacture and test 22 heavy lift slings for the jacket lifting phase of the NASR project in Abu Dhabi. Due to their compact terminations, lighter weight and easier handling characteristics as compared to hand spliced cable laid slings, the customer selected the KimLock™ resin terminated cable laid sling as their preferred choice for this project.

    The full scope of the NASR project includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning work for the super complex comprising  a  gas  treatment  platform,  a  separation  platform,  an accommodation platform; laying 144 km subsea power and 55 km infield cables; and modifying an existing manifold tower and two wellhead towers.

    Upon completion by the second half of 2019, the facilities will increase the daily oil production capacity of the offshore field to 65,000 barrels from the current 22,000 barrels.

    The NASR oil field is situated130 km northwest of Abu Dhabi, UAE.

  • Badamyar Project: 2,000t Topside Heavy Lift
    December 2016

    BACKGROUND
    The combination of KTL Offshore’s innovative and pioneering technology in synthetic sling development and successful track record in the offshore heavy lift industry resulted in the award to design, manufacture and supply KimLift™ synthetic slings for the Badamyar topside installation project. These slings were selected over traditional steel slings due to their lighter weight which effectively increased the lifting capacity of the crane; as well as due to the difficult nature of the lifting job which involved placing two topside modules side by side on the jacket.

    This ground breaking project utilized what we believe to be the largest synthetic slings ever manufactured and used for a topside lift to date. The two modules weighed approximately 2,000 metric tons each and were transported from the fabrication yard in Korea to site in Myanmar with the slings installed. The slings were manufactured as matched sets to 0.25% length tolerance (at load) using KTL’s Engineered Length Control™ technology. Individual proof load testing was conducted using our KimTest 3000 test bed, one of the largest and longest in the industry.

    The topsides were installed in somewhat adverse weather conditions and both were completely suspended between hook and jacket using the KimLift™ slings for up to five hours. The lifting and mating of both modules was completed successfully and without major incident. From a sling perspective, this project was the result of years of R&D, engineering and experience combining to deliver a spectacular result. It also demonstrated the suitability of KimLift™ synthetic slings for the most critical offshore lifting operation!

  • Mariner Project (U.K) : Cable Laid Slings and Grommets

    BACKGROUND
    KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid slings and grommets for the lifting of the Topside module for the Mariner Heavy Oilfield project. The module is huge with a weight of 38,000 tones and was built in Korea and according to media reports will be mounted on the largest Jacket that Statoil has ever had built. To accomplish this lift, the largest of the cable laid slings was 360mm diameter with a CSBL of 4,620 MT. The Mariner Field is located on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea, approximately 150 kilometres east of the Shetland Isles. The Mariner field consists of two shallow reservoir sections – the deeper, Maureen Formation at 1492 meters and the shallower Heimdal reservoir at 1227 meters.
