  • Badamyar Project: 2,000t Topside Heavy Lift
    December 2016

    BACKGROUND
    The combination of KTL Offshore’s innovative and pioneering technology in synthetic sling development and successful track record in the offshore heavy lift industry resulted in the award to design, manufacture and supply KimLift™ synthetic slings for the Badamyar topside installation project. These slings were selected over traditional steel slings due to their lighter weight which effectively increased the lifting capacity of the crane; as well as due to the difficult nature of the lifting job which involved placing two topside modules side by side on the jacket.

    This ground breaking project utilized what we believe to be the largest synthetic slings ever manufactured and used for a topside lift to date. The two modules weighed approximately
    2,000 metric tons each and were transported from the fabrication yard in Korea to site in Myanmar with the slings installed. The slings were manufactured as matched sets to 0.25% length tolerance (at load) using KTL’s Engineered Length Control™ technology. Individual proof load testing was conducted using our KimTest 3000 test bed, one of the largest and longest in the industry.

    The topsides were installed in somewhat adverse weather conditions and both were completely suspended between hook and jacket using the KimLift™ slings for up to five hours. The lifting and mating of both modules was completed successfully and without major incident. From a sling perspective, this project was the result of years of R&D, engineering and experience combining to deliver a spectacular result. It also demonstrated the suitability of KimLift™ synthetic slings for the most critical offshore lifting operation!

  • Mariner Project (U.K) : Cable Laid Slings and Grommets
    November 2016

    BACKGROUND
    KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid slings and grommets for the lifting of the Topside module for the Mariner Heavy Oilfield project. The module is huge with a weight of 38,000 tones and was built in Korea and according to media reports will be mounted on the largest Jacket that Statoil has ever had built. To accomplish this lift, the largest of the cable laid slings was 360mm diameter with a CSBL of 4,620 MT. The Mariner Field is located on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea, approximately 150 kilometres east of the Shetland Isles. The Mariner field consists of two shallow reservoir sections – the deeper, Maureen Formation at 1492 meters and the shallower Heimdal reservoir at 1227 meters.

  • Thien Ung Project: Cable Laid Grommets
    July 2016

    KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid grommets and KimSwage steel slings for the lifting of the Thien Ung top deck modules. The top decks are part of a 3,500t platform which includes a four legged jacket.

     

    The Thien Ung Gas Field is located at block 04-3 in the Nam Con Son basin offshore Vietnam. The project aims at exploiting the natural gas deposits in this field.

  • Marham TP-9 Project : Cable Laid Slings (hand Spliced)
    June 2016

    BACKGROUND
    KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid slings for the lifting of the TP-9 top decks for the Marham project in the Arabian Gulf (KSA). The topside weighed a massive 3,500 tons and is part of a programme covering the manufacturing and installation of four oil producing platforms and associated pipelines and power cables.

  • INPEX SURF Project (Australia)
    May 2016

    KTL Offshore fabricated heavy lift KimLiftTM synthetic round slings for the INPEX SURF project (subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines). 

    The slings will be used for this EPIC project including the pre-commissioning of production flowline systems, a MEG injection system, start-up condensate transfer and fuel gas transfer flowline systems, control systems as well as other associated SURF elements in water depths up to 275 meters. 

    The slings were manufactured to exceptionally tight length tolerances using KTL’s trademark Engineered Length Control system and tested to full proof load using our KimTest 3000 test bed. The slings were also subject to a floatation test to prove that they float in water.

  • Daman Development Project (India)
    April 2016

    KTL Offshore was awarded the project to supply12 heavy lift slings for ONGC’s Daman Development Project in the Arabian Sea, offshore India. This EPIC project is expected to be completed in 2017. It will be executed in 2 phases where a total of 8 wellhead platforms will be installed and a network of 101.5km pipelines will be laid. Gas and condensate from the Daman development will be transported to Hazira through Tapti Process facilities of the Tapti-JV (KTL Offshore also previously supplied the heavy lift slings for the Tapti project). 

    KTL Offshore supplied KimLockTM cable laid slings with resin terminated spliced eyes, which provided the heavy lift contractor with a lighter rigging solution as well as a faster, easier load out and installation due to the compact terminations.

  • Forward Mounted Base (FMB) Project (Qatar)

    KTL Offshore was awarded the heavy lift sling contract for Qatar Petroleum’s FMB (Forward Mounted Base) EPIC project which comprised a living quarter platform and utility platform with a connecting bridge. The project location was in Qatar. The scope of the contract was to supply KimFlexTM braided slings, KimLockTM resin terminated cable laid slings, KimSwageTM Flemish eyes slings as well as cable laid grommets.

  • Gina Krog Project: Ultra Long Cable Laid Grommets (155 Meters Circ.)

    BACKGROUND
    KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid slings and grommets for the lifting of the MSF and other modules. The MSF module has an estimated weight of around 10,200 metric tons and in total the topside weight is approximately 17,700 metric tons.

    The Gina Krog field is located around 250 kilometers southwest of Stavanger, Norway. The development has an estimated 225 million barrels of oil and gas. The entire topside will be situated in a water depth of 116 meters.

  • Ivar Aasen Project
    January 2016

    KTL Offshore was awarded the contract to manufacture and supply the steel cable laid slings for the lifting of the topside modules for the Ivar Aasen project. The topside module weighed around 13,700 metric tons in total. The two main cable laid slings were ultra long at 171 meters and 167 meters length (straight pull). The slings were manufactured at our Malaysian facility and tested on our unique KimTest 3000 test bed. This is one of the largest and longest in the rigging industry, providing KTL with the ability to proof load slings up to 200 meters in length. The maximum proof load capacity of this test bed is 3,000 metric tons.

    The Ivar Aasen field is located in the North Sea, west of the Johan Sverdrup field, at a water depth of around 112m. This first phase development has an estimated production of 16,000 boe (barrels of oil equivalent) per day, increasing to 23,000 boe per day in the second phase.

  • Prelude FLNG Project
    January 2016

    KTL Offshore was contracted to supply one of the highest capacity synthetic slings ever manufactured to date for the lifting of certain equipment used to construct the massive Prelude FLNG vessel. The KimLift™ slings were designed and manufactured in Singapore and proof load tested on our KimTest 3000 test bed at our facility in Malaysia. The design and development of these synthetic slings represented a breakthrough in technology for synthetic slings, due to the required strength and length of the slings. The KimLift™ slings were manufactured with Engineered Length Control™ for length accuracy under load. The load bearing structure of the slings was constructed using the most advanced HMPE yarn and spun into the optimum design at our Singapore facility. Each sling was supplied with Cordura outer body protection and a higher strength cover protection at each eye. 

    The Prelude FLNG is the world's first floating liquefied natural gas platform as well as the largest offshore facility ever constructed. It is 488 metres (1,601 ft) long, 74 metres (243 ft) wide, and made with more than 260,000 tonnes of steel. At full load, it will displace more than 600,000 tonnes, more than five times the displacement of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. The hull was launched in December 2013.
