    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Subsea

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor selected KimLift® synthetic round slings to complete the first of two offshore campaigns for Reliance Industries Ltd. KG-D6 R-Cluster subsea field development. The field is located in the Krishna Godavari basin off the East Coast of India.

    The campaign included piggy-back pipe lay in S-lay mode (18-in. plus a 4-in.) offshore in approximately 4,265 ft (1,300 m) water depth and the installation of 6-in. lines, PLETs and manifolds to water depths of approximately 6,300 ft (1,920 m). In addition, the contractor also installed India's longest dual riser.

    The KimLift® synthetic round slings were produced to very tight length tolerances at a specific load and bearing diameter. This was made possible with Future Synthetic’s Engineered Length Control and the tolerance of 0.5% was consistently met.

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Deepwater Subsea Application

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor selected multiple KimLift® synthetic round slings as their preferred choice for this Deepwater, subsea lifting application.

    The slings were used for the Block H Gas Development project located in 1300m water depth offshore Sabah, Malaysia.

    These synthetic slings were the new generation KLXB KimLift® slings utilizing machine braided jackets for greater protection to the load bearing core yarn.

    The braided jacket provides superior protection against mechanical damage and specifically against potential damage caused by the ROV gripper.

    Due to their use subsea, the slings were required to be short in length and yet have a high strength – the two properties combined is typically very difficult for a sling maker to achieve. However, the manufacturing process used in producing the KLXB range overcomes this problem and slings a short as 2.0m can be produced in high load capacity.

     

    SCOPE OF SUPPLY:

    diameter) and nominal effective working length 3.00 meters.

    2x KimLift® synthetic round slings KLX-99; MBL 495 MT (adjusted for bending

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use Slings

    BACKGROUND

    The heavy lift crane vessel required a load test on the main revolving crane of 3,000 metric tons prior to mobilization for an offshore project. The test involved lifting a dead-weight of 3,000 metric tons as part of the acceptance procedure during the peak summer season in the Middle East where daytime ambient temperatures reached 40 degrees C.

    In order to reduce rigging weight, the crane operator selected KimLift KLX-815 synthetic slings to lift the test barge. The slings were 38.0m in length.

    The slings had been used on multiple heavy lift projects before and were recertified after a thorough inspection performed by KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC.

    All slings had been made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance for previous projects.

    The success of this project proved the concept of large synthetic slings being safely used for several lifts in multiple projects – another breakthrough in the use of synthetic slings to replace steel wire rope slings!

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use Slings

     

    BACKGROUND

    This iconic state-of-the-art heavy lift crane vessel required a load test on the main revolving crane of 3,000 metric tons prior to mobilization for an offshore project.

    The test procedure involved using KimLift® synthetic slings up to 1,320t in the build-up to applying the full 3,000t test load.

    KimLift® KLX-815 and KLX-563 synthetic slings were selected for this load test to supplement steel cable laid grommets as a means of reducing the rigging weight. They were connected in-line with the steel grommets by shackles.

    The slings had been used on multiple heavy lift projects before and were thoroughly inspected before use by KTL Offshore (Middle East) FZC according to a well defined procedure.

    All slings had been made with Engineered Length Control ® for strict length compliance for previous projects.

    2x KimLift® synthetic round slings KLX-815; MBL 4,076 MT (adjusted for bending diameter) and nominal effective working length 38.00 meters.

    2x KimLift® synthetic round slings KLX-563; MBL 2,276 MT (adjusted for bending diameter) and nominal effective working length 18.9 meters.

    KimLift® Synthetic Round Slings – Multiple Use

     

    BACKGROUND

    The offshore contractor required a lightweight sling option to lift the suction piles from the deck of the vessel.

    KimLift® KLX-165 synthetic slings were selected to be used due to their ability to be wrapped around the pile without risking damage to the pile.

    The slings were specifically fitted with FS Armor seizing at the contact points with the suction piles to prevent damage to the slings when used in double choker configuration. The FS Armor seizing protected the sling from damage and they were used for multiple lifting and on more than one project.

    The Neelam Redevelopment project encompassed total engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC). The scope included one new process platform having gas processing and compression facilities, three new well head platforms, 32km pipeline, clamp-on on three existing platforms and modification work on eight existing platforms

    The Neelam Offshore field is situated in the Heera-Panna block in Mumbai Offshore, about 45km Southwest of Mumbai city.

     

    SCOPE OF SUPPLY:

    2x KimLift® synthetic round slings KLX-165 (MBL 815MT) and 2x KLX-281 (MBL 1,405MT) with FS Armor protection. Nominal effective working length 32.00 meters for both types of slings.
